Born in Aberystwyth (Wales), Peter enjoyed a successful and enjoyable playing career spending time at Chelsea FC as a youth player and periods at Manchester Utd FC Tranmere Rovers FC and Shrewsbury FC at junior level. He gained international honours for Wales representing his country at U15 U16 U17 U18 level and captained his country at U18 level. Peter won many caps playing against countries such as Holland, Portugal, Bulgaria, England, Australia, Luxembourg, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and many more.
After playing in the U16 European Championship qualifiers in Lisbon, Portugal with football stars such as Craig Bellamy and Simon Davies, Peter enjoyed time at Chelsea FC as a youth player before injury hampered his career. Peter later played for his home town club and earned a place in the club’s UEFA Europa League qualifiers squad for the match against Dinaburg FC of Latvia. Peter has experience playing football in countries such as USA, Portugal, Holland, Germany, France, Latvia, Scotland, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and England. He retired from the game at 26yrs old due to injury and to concentrate on his coaching career but also to spend time with his wife and son to help his son develop as a footballer and as a person
Peter Griffiths Coaching Career
After finishing playing, Peter dedicated his time and energy into developing football at grassroots and elite level.
Peter who is a UEFA qualified coach and holder of the full English FA Youth Award, has coached and been part of the recruitment team at a host of top Premier League and Football League professional clubs academies such as Liverpool FC, Aston Villa FC, Cardiff FC and Wrexham FC. Where his roles were to identifying elite and talented players and played a part in the development of players at all ages groups.
Peter has coaching experience coaching football in countries such as USA, Africa, England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Sierra Leone, Wales and Dubai (Middle East) where he lead the PG10 junior team to victory to claim the “Dubai International Super Cup in 2012”.
A memorable experience was coaching in USA with PG10 touring Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas with Peter guiding the junior team to victory by winning the unique San Francisco Cup in 2013.
Peter has also spent time in Sierra Leone working alongside the “Craig Bellamy Foundation” coaching and developing some of the most deprived children in the world.
Peter has also worked and learned from some of biggest European clubs in football such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia, Villarreal and Bayern Munich.
As well as working at elite level Peter has also ran development and coaching centres across Wales where he was responsible for the development of all technical and tactical aspects of the coaching set up for children 4-11yrs old and arranging matches against professional clubs while providing coach education as well as monitoring player progress and staff mentoring for each age group
Alongside that he also provided opportunities for children and young people of all abilities across Wales, where he was head coach and managing director of football schemes for children aged between 4yrs-16yrs old. He was also responsible for the development of all players and coaches and the fixture program where players enjoyed fantastic opportunities to play in local leagues and tournaments to help them enjoy the game and be active.
Peter also ran development schemes for children aged 4yrs to 7yrs, where children learnt new skills and techniques and were introduced to football as well as playing small sided games in a fun and safe environment.
As well as his knowledge and enthusiasm for developing children and young people, Peter has been awarded many honours and awards for his work in junior football.
In 2004, Peter was awarded the Chwarae Teg Award as top coach for Ceredigion. In 2009, Peter was highly commended by the Leading Wales Award for outstanding leadership in sports management and development work. In 2010, Peter had the honour of visiting Westminster to raise awareness to MP’s on his development work in football and to promote good practice for other areas of the UK to adopt and learn about Peter’s vision for the game for children and young people to given opportunities in sport but also given important life skills.
In 2011, Peter again was nominated for an award the Sports section of the Wales Inspire Award.
In 2012, Peter was a finalist in the “Leading Wales Award” in the “Best Leader” category and was nominated for the “Inspire Wales Award” also.
